Protect the Apalachicola, Protect the Gulf

Please joing the growing chorus of voices from across the Gulf of Mexico urging the Governors of Florida, Alabama, and Georgia to put the interests of all those living in the Gulf region, both human and wildlife, first. Please urge these decision makers to maintain healthy freshwater flows downstream through the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint river ecosystem.

Real people living in real places depend on this water. Our seafood industry depends on this water. Wildlife and coastal estuaries depend on this water. The future and health of the Gulf of Mexico depends on this water.

Dear Governors and Secretary Kempthorne,

I am writing to you today regarding the upcoming meeting between Florida, Alabama, and Georgia concerning the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint river ecosystem.  I want to express to you how strongly I feel about this issue, and urge you to stand strong for Gulf of Mexico in negotiations over the short term and long term policies set regarding this valuable natural resource.
 
I have profound concerns about the environmental, public health, and economic impacts of restricting downstream flow from Georgia into Alabama and Florida, particularly into the Apalachicola River and Apalachicola Bay.

I urge you to put the interests of all those living in the Gulf region, both human and wildlife, first and maintain healthy and necessary freshwater flows downstream through the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint river
ecosystem.  Please stand strong for the people and wildlife of the Gulf of Mexico and ensure continued and viable downstream flow from Georgia to the human and ecological communities that depend on them for biological and economic survival.  Real people living in real places depend on that water.

The only sustainable, long term solution for the regional and multi-state water conflicts impacting Florida, Alabama, and Georgia are aggressive and mandatory water conservation policies coupled with meaningful growth management that factors the availability of water into growth and planning decisions in all three states.

The Gulf of Mexico is a critical natural resource for all Americans.  Its health and ecological future is paramount.  The economies of both Alabama and Florida are directly tied to a clean, healthy, and productive Gulf of Mexico.  Please stand strong for the people and wildlife of the Gulf of Mexico and ensure continued and viable downstream freshwater flow throughout the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint river ecosystem.
