The EPA has announced plans to veto the Yazoo Pumps Project, which would effectively stop the Army Corp of Engineers from constructing the world’s largest water pumping plant in one of the most sparsely populated regions of Mississippi. The project would drain wetlands with the main benefit going to agricultural interests—all paid for by U.S. taxpayers.
The damage and destruction that the Yazoo Pumps would cause is truly astounding. In 2000, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) concluded that the Yazoo Pumps would drain and damage over 200,000 acres of ecologically significant wetlands.
